Happy birthday to all the other Scorpios out there! My birthday is pretty much my favorite day of the year. I believe acquiring another year of life is a grand achievement worthy of celebration. This year, however, I came upon one of those numbers with a “5” in it. You know, halfway through a decade. Which basically means I’m closer to the other end of the spectrum. It jarred me a little, I have to admit. What was that about?
I realized that the last five years have whizzed by. Yes, I got a Masters degree, and yes, I started my own business, but I’m still wondering… what have I been doing? Have I really been living? Or is time just passing me by? I realized that I needed to do a more in depth analysis.
I think birthdays are a perfect opportunity for reflection. Every year I do a small inventory of where I’ve been and where I would like to go. This year felt like I needed to dig a little deeper. Fortunately, there was a New Moon a few days before the Big Day, so I did a little ceremony.
I decided to look at the past five years and shine a light on what I considered to be my wins and my failures. Here are a few questions that started the process:
Where have I been great?
Where could I be better?
Is there anything I’m hanging onto that I need to let go of?
What am I grateful for?
What’s the highest possibility for my life?
At the end of the exercise, I felt completely alive. Ready to take on the next five years with reckless abandon. I am excited for life, wherever it might lead me.
So, birthdays shmirthdays? No way Jose. Still the best day ever.
